Eragrostis spectabilis (PURPLE LOVE GRASS)
bloom Jul-Sep | height 1-2’ | full-sun
This is a fantastic short little grass. The broad foliage reminds one of switchgrass (Panicum), but when the seed heads emerge and ripen it becomes something all its own. Like a mist of purple haze, this plant resembles a fog that has just rolled in.
Mix it with Rudbeckia fulgida var. speciosa for a truly unique and whimsical planting.
Plants that grow well with purple love grass: Rudbeckia fulgid variety speciosa (showy black-eyed Susan), Echinacea pupurea (purple coneflower), Sporobolus heterolepis (prairie dropseed)
