North Branch Natives

Tradescantia ohiensis (OHIO SPIDERWORT)

bloom May-Jul (may double bloom in the fall) | height 2-3’ | full sun

From foliage color and texture to the most vibrant blue-purple flowers (it seems like it glows), Ohio spiderwort is a stunner. Mix it in with medium/tall structural plants in lean dry soil to keep it upright and in full flower. Plant it in small groupings of 3 or so.

This species is native to Cook County and surrounding areas.

Plants that grow well with spiderwort: Symphyotrichum oolentangiense (sky blue aster), Monarda fistulosa (bee balm), Koeleria macrantha (June grass)
