North Branch Natives

Asclepias tuberosa (BUTTERFLY MILKWEED)

bloom Jul-Aug | height 2’ | full to part-sun

Bright umbel-shaped orange flowers develop early in the summer atop dark green (almost evergreen-looking) foliage. Structural upright pods mature to a dusty rose color and open to display an impressive matrix of filaments connected to tear-shaped seeds.

Plants that grow well with butterfly milkweed: plains oval sedge (Carex brevior), prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis), pale purple coneflower (Echinacea pallida)
