North Branch Natives
WILD GERANIUM (Geranium maculatum)
bloom Apr-Jul | height 1.5’ | part-sun to shade
Geranium maculatum is on everyone's list of must-have native plants —for good reason. Early season blooms attract bumblebees and the foliage fills out nicely creating a great ground cover. It fits into any garden space, and in the fall the leaves turn a dark maroon in color. The leaves will get a bit singed if planted in full sun, so use it in a prairie ground-floor matrix planting (under taller species) or tuck it into a part-shade to shade garden. Love it!
Plants that grow well with aromatic aster: Any sedge, Hydrangea quercifolia (oak leaf hydrangea), Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower), Zizia aurea (golden alexanders)
