North Branch Natives
Echinacea purpurea (PURPLE CONEFLOWER) *
bloom Jul-Aug | height 3’ | full to par-sun
Echinacea is a staple for any garden —this structural plant offers so much! Giant eye-grabbing flowers that act as landing pad and nectar source for butterflies, pollen for bees, seeds in the fall for small birds, and hollow stems for native bee nesting. On the human aesthetic front, it is beautiful in all seasons, and can add some hauntingly beautiful grace to a winter garden.
Plants that grow well with purple coneflower: Sporobolus heterolepis (prairie dropseed), Zizia aurea (golden alexanders), Monarda fistulosa (bee balm)
