Zizia aptera (HEART-LEAF GOLDEN ALEXANDERS) *
bloom Apr-Jun | height 2’ | full to part-sun
Heart-leaf golden Alexanders (Zizia aptera) is a shorter cousin to the more common golden Alexanders (Zizia aurea). This species is a good fit for smaller gardens, with leaves that collect late fall moisture for a spectacular frost display. Same great flower for early season bees, and foliage that is host plant to the black swallowtail butterfly. It is a lovely addition to any garden.
Plants that grow well with Zizia aptera: Allium canadense var. Lavendulare (showy wild garlic), Juncus tenuis (path rush), Asclepias sullivantii (prairie milkweed)
