HAIRY BEARDTONGUE (Penstemon hirsutus)
bloom May-Jun | height 1.5’ | part-sun to shade
We love anything Penstemon, this shorter species with hairy (tomentose) stems and abundant flowers is no exception. Loved by hummingbirds, bumblebees and butterflies, it is sure to be a nice addition to your garden. This is a new one for North Branch Natives, so please let us know how it grows for you.
Plants that grow well with hairy beardtongue: Echinacea pallida (pale purple coneflower), Bouteloua gracilis (blue grama), Sporobolus heterolepis (prairie dropseed)
