North Branch Natives
Spiraea alba (MEADOWSWEET) SM
bloom Jul-Sep | height 4’ | full to part-sun
Plant this lovely shrub in larger groups for a mass of finer textured foliage and upright blooms. The flowers provide nectar and pollen to a variety of bees and it provides cover and nesting sites for birds. Easy to grow, Spirea likes a bit more moisture in the soil, but it can also handle intermittent dry conditions. You can mix it right in with grasses and wildflowers.
Plants that grow well with Spirea alba: Monarda fistulosa (bee balm), Symphyotrichum oolentangiense (sky blue aster), Sporobolus heterolepis (prairie dropseed)
